Today, most companies would struggle if it weren’t for support workers fixing PC’s and networks, while giving advice to users on a day to day basis. Because of the multifaceted levels of technology, many more trained staff are needed to specialise in the smooth operation of functions we need to be sure will work effectively.

Being a part of the information technology industry is one of the most electrifying and revolutionary industries that you could be a part of. Being a member of a team working on breakthroughs in technology puts you at the fore-front of developments shaping life over the next few decades.

Society largely thinks that the technological advancement we’ve had over recent years is cooling down. All indicators point in the opposite direction. We have yet to experience incredible advances, and the internet significantly will become an increasingly dominant part of our lives.

A average IT employee throughout Britain can demonstrate that they earn a lot more money than employees on a par outside of IT. Standard IT salaries are hard to beat nationally.

It’s no secret that there is a substantial nationwide demand for professionally qualified IT workers. In addition, with the constant growth in the marketplace, it seems this will be the case for the significant future.

It’s so important to understand this key point: You have to get round-the-clock 24×7 professional support from mentors and instructors. We can tell you that you’ll strongly regret it if you don’t adhere to this.

You’ll be waiting ages for an answer with email based support, and phone support is often to a call-centre that will just take down the issue and email it over to their technical team – who will attempt to call you within 24-48 hrs, at a time suitable for them. This is no use if you’re sitting there confused over an issue and only have a specific time you can study.

The best training colleges tend to use an online access round-the-clock system involving many support centres over many time-zones. You’re offered an easy to use environment that accesses the most appropriate office any time of the day or night: Support on demand.

Never make the mistake of compromise when it comes to your support. Many IT hopefuls who give up, would have had a different experience if they’d got the right support package in the first place.

The way a programme is physically sent to you isn’t always given the appropriate level of importance. How is the courseware broken down? And in what sequence and how fast does each element come?

Training companies will normally offer a program spread over 1-3 years, and drop-ship the materials to you piecemeal as you complete each section or exam. If you think this sound logical, then consider this:

What could you expect if you didn’t actually complete everything within the time limits imposed? Often the staged order doesn’t come as naturally as an alternative path could be.

To provide the maximum security and flexibility, it’s normal for most trainees to insist that all study materials are couriered out in one package, all at the beginning. It’s then your own choice how fast or slow and in what order you’d like to take your exams.

Many trainers provide a bunch of books and manuals. Obviously, this isn’t much fun and not a very good way of achieving retention.

Where possible, if we can study while utilising as many senses as possible, then the results are usually dramatically better.

Fully interactive motion videos utilising video demo’s and practice lab’s will forever turn you away from traditional book study. And they’re far more fun.

Don’t take any chances and look at a small selection of training examples before you hand over your cheque. What you want are instructor-led video demonstrations and a variety of audio-visual and interactive sections.

Some companies only have access to online training only; and although this is okay the majority of the time, consider how you’ll deal with it when you don’t have access to the internet or you only get very a very slow connection sometimes. It’s much safer to rely on CD and DVD ROM materials which removes the issue entirely.

If you’re considering whether or not you should purchase registry cleaning software, there’s a strong possibility that you’re not 100% sure as to what the software actually does. If this sounds familiar to you then you need to realize that you’re certainly not the only one who doesn’t fully understand the purpose of registry cleanings software. In this short article, we’ll try to explain it in plain and simple layman’s terms.

Simply put, registry cleaning software improves a computer’s performance. This is essentially because the windows registry is to a certain extent to similar to a person’s brain, and when it starts to becoming clogged up with useless information and obsolete data entries, it eventually begins slowing down. By running registry cleaning software, you’ll be giving the windows registry a thorough spring clean, in that the software will remove any unnecessary entries.

Try to imagine all that unnecessary data as being heavy clothing on a marathon runner. Obviously, with plenty of extra clothing on, the runner will certainly not be able to perform as he usually would, and if you add enough extra clothing on him, he’ll probably collapse before he reaches the finishing line. On the other hand, strip all that unnecessary clothing away, and he’ll be able to run like a true champion. Basically, the same principle applies to your computer’s registry, in that if you remove all the unnecessary data, your computer will be able to function in the way it was originally intended to.

Additionally, registry cleaning software also repairs and prevents errors. Bear in mind that invalid and obsolete data which is stored in the windows registry will often do more than simply slow your system down. In fact, all that useless data can actually end up creating havoc when it comes to installing or uninstalling software programs. A poorly maintained registry is probably the number one cause for programs freezing and for computers crashing.

See, your Windows registry stores information for nearly every application that you have installed on your computer. If some of this information is incorrect, it can and eventually will cause errors to pop pup. Registry cleaning software will help to eliminate those errant entries to fix existing errors, and it will help to prevent future errors on your PC as well.

Let’s face it; if you drove your car every day and you never bothered servicing it, it would inevitably end up breaking down one day. The exact same thing applies to computers, in that if the registry isn’t cleaned and maintained on a regular basis, problems will inevitably be encountered. Remember, you only need to purchase a registry cleaner once, and what’s more, it will soon pay for itself.

When you select any computer course or training it is vital that the certification you will gain is one that is current with the needs of industry. Additionally, you should make sure that the subject is a match for you, your abilities and your personality.

If you’re thinking about upgrading your IT skill-set, perhaps with some Microsoft Office skills, or even loftier ambitions, you have a choice of how to study.

Because there are such a lot of low cost, easy-to-use courses and assistance, you’re sure to discover the right one that should take you to your destination.

Locating job security in the current climate is very rare. Businesses frequently remove us from the workforce at the drop of a hat – as long as it fits their needs.

Security only exists now through a swiftly increasing marketplace, driven by a shortage of trained workers. It’s this alone that creates the right conditions for a secure marketplace – a much more desirable situation.

The computing Industry skills deficit throughout the country currently stands at approximately twenty six percent, as reported by a recent e-Skills study. So, for every four jobs in existence in Information Technology (IT), employers can only source trained staff for three of them.

Gaining full commercial IT qualification is consequently a fast-track to achieve a life-long and worthwhile profession.

In actuality, retraining in Information Technology during the years to come is likely the best career move you’ll ever make.

There is a tidal wave of change coming via technology as we approach the second decade of the 21st century – and it becomes more and more thrilling each day.

Society largely thinks that the revolution in technology that’s been a familiar part of our recent lives is slowing down. This couldn’t be more wrong. Massive changes are on the horizon, and the internet in particular will be the biggest thing to affect the way we live.

Let’s not forget that typical remuneration in the world of IT across the UK is significantly better than remuneration packages in other industries, which means you’ll probably receive a lot more as a trained IT professional, than you would in most typical jobs.

As the IT industry keeps emerging year on year, it’s looking good that the need for appropriately qualified IT professionals will flourish for a good while yet.

A typical blunder that potential students often succumb to is to focus entirely on getting a qualification, rather than starting with the end result they want to achieve. Colleges are full of unaware students who took a course because it seemed fun – rather than what would get them their end-goal of a job they enjoyed.

Imagine training for just one year and then end up performing the job-role for decades. Don’t make the mistake of choosing what sounds like an ‘interesting’ training program and then put 10-20 years into something you don’t even enjoy!

It’s a good idea to understand the exact expectations industry will have. Which certifications they will want you to have and how to gain experience. It’s also worth spending time setting guidelines as to how far you’d like to progress your career as it will often affect your choice of exams.

We recommend that students take advice from an experienced industry advisor before making your final decision on some particular learning program, so you can be sure that the content of a learning package provides the skill-set required for your career choice.

One area often overlooked by trainees weighing up a particular programme is ‘training segmentation’. Essentially, this is how the program is broken down into parts for drop-shipping to you, which vastly changes the point you end up at.

Many think it logical (with training often lasting 2 or 3 years to pass all the required exams,) for your typical trainer to courier a single section at a time, as you complete each part. Although:

With thought, many trainees understand that their training company’s standard order of study isn’t the easiest way for them. They might find a slightly different order suits them better. And what happens if they don’t finish in the allotted time?

In an ideal situation, you’d ask for every single material to be delivered immediately – so you’ll have them all to return to any point – at any time you choose. This also allows you to vary the order in which you attack each section as and when something more intuitive seems right for you.

I’m not professing that IT training and careers within IT are the be-all and end-all of futures on this planet. God forbid where we would be without the highly paid football stars to entertain us so well on a week by week basis. Yet there has to be a reason why more and more people are studying for careers within the IT industry.

An interesting development has been the increase in IT training for those people who are seeking a career change or an enhancement to their existing skill sets. In reviewing this, I’m curious as to why IT continues to offer the attraction, and is this option really viable?

When looking at relationships, we all accept that people and key elements can change. A girlfriend or boyfriend at the age of 10 is often thought a cute thing, but it’s not expected to last. Relationships at the age of 18-20 can be less transient, but again have a greater rate of short-term life span than those formed later in life.

We ask young people to make decisions and plan their working career fairly early on in life. Yet historically there seems to be an inherent resistance to change as times passes. So if we accept that life changes, and we accept that circumstances also change, isn’t it prudent for us to accept that career paths can and indeed ought to change?

The ongoing dependence of today’s society on IT, and factors related to IT, means that many people assume a career in this industry would be well paid and reliable, (based on simple economics of supply and demand). A lot see a direct correlation of how they utilise IT systems in a social environment (such as playing games and social interaction on the internet e.g. facebook etc.) and transfer that into a career. Could this genuinely lead to a career within IT, and what factors would be necessary for a successful career?

I believe that a key element in answering this is an understanding that a career in IT is as dependent on factors such as an employer (or client base if self-employed,) and economic issues, as any other career path. However, there is considerable evidence to suggest that professional people within the IT industry can move between employers and industry sectors more freely, due to the wide dependence on IT services across both geographic and industry models.

One of the key elements is the term ‘Professional IT People’ – just as in any other industry, employers have consistently sought human resources where the skills can be proven by both experience and an approved benchmark. This applies whether that is a degree, or recognised apprenticeship culminating in an industry standard qualification, such as electrician and plumber.

It’s no different in the IT industry. Just because many people have a computer at home, and can experience many areas of the IT industry domestically, this is vastly different in many cases from the skills and resources required in the commercial sector. I’m sure we’d all acknowledge that playing games for four hours a night or surfing the internet doesn’t make us a qualified games designer, or a qualified webmaster.

Within the IT field, professional qualifications such as MCSE or MCSA are immediately recognisable as an industry standard. Employers know they can rely upon the skills offered, and as such there’s a reduced risk of breach of commercial insurance policies for work and services provided by such people. This applies whether they are self-employed or directly employed.

Anybody seriously thinking about a future in this field must look at how best to position themselves to become interesting to an employer – and clearly having a professional qualification will go a long way towards this. It’s the employer or client who pays the salary, so we should at least be aware of what they’re seeking in recruitment or engagement.

Data exists in abundance to support the view that the growth in the IT sector is more resilient and faster than many other industry sectors. We’re experiencing a transitional shift in industry sectors, from the first world through to the third world. The rate at which many growing or ‘tiger’ economies are embracing and adapting to long standing IT systems is very fast indeed.

Up to now in this article we’ve looked at the trends, which with the slow down and in some cases demise of traditional industry (and therefore traditional job-for-life expectancies), there will be an increasing propensity towards several jobs and career paths over our lifetime.

Furthermore we’ve noted that the IT industry remains consistently attractive as it provides both consistencies in supply and demand, across industry sectors and across geographical boundaries. Current forecasts also predict the increasing long-term reliance on IT systems overall, and the professional people that develop, utilise and maintain those systems remain integral to many organisations long-term requirements.

Salary forecasts remain high within this industry, with plenty of evidence to suggest that this is achievable. It’s worth noting however, that in many other sectors the top-people get paid the top-money, and just ‘being there’ isn’t good enough and doesn’t guarantee the top-money.

We have also put forward the case that employers review recruitment for IT skills as no different to any other facet of their business, and they expect the individuals to formally demonstrate their skills and qualifications, in exactly the same way as they expect their electricians and accountants to be professionally qualified to do the work they’re employed to do.

I believe that there is considerable evidence to promote a career within the IT industry as a strong and viable option to many people within today’s economic and social climate. High salaries are definitely achievable. Yet it’s equally clear and, to be fair, common sense to expect to have to achieve a recognisable professional IT qualification to be able to clearly demonstrate one’s own ability, and at the very least the attitude that you are serious about this career path and that your prospective employer can rely on you in the commercial field.

We all have busy lives, and most often if we desire to improve our career prospects, getting educated outside of working hours is what we have to do. Microsoft authorised training can be the way to do it.

In addition, you may hope to be given advice on the jobs to be had once you have passed your exams, and what sort of person such positions might be right for. Lots of people like to get advice on what would suit them individually.

Training courses must be tailored to match your current skills and aptitude. So, after working out the best kind of work for you, your next focus is the relevant route to get you there.

One useful service provided by many trainers is a programme of Job Placement assistance. This is designed to assist your search for your first position. Don’t get overly impressed with this service – it’s easy for their marketing department to overplay it. At the end of the day, the need for well trained IT people in the United Kingdom is what will make you attractive to employers.

You would ideally have help and assistance with preparing a CV and getting interviews though; and we’d recommend any student to bring their CV up to date the day they start training – don’t delay until you’ve qualified.

It’s not uncommon to find that junior support roles are offered to students who are in the process of training and haven’t even passed a single exam yet. At the very least this will get you on your way.

Normally you’ll get quicker results from a specialised and independent local recruitment service than you will through a training company’s national service, as they will be more familiar with the area and local employers.

Do make sure you don’t put hundreds of hours of effort into your studies, only to stop and imagine someone else is miraculously going to land you a job. Stop procrastinating and start looking for yourself. Put as much energy and enthusiasm into landing your new role as you did to get trained.

A fatal Faux-Pas that many potential students make is to focus entirely on getting a qualification, and take their eye off the end result they want to achieve. Universities have thousands of students that chose an ‘interesting’ course – rather than what would get them an enjoyable career or job.

It’s unfortunate, but the majority of trainees commence training that sounds magnificent from the sales literature, but which delivers a career that is of no interest at all. Try talking to typical university leavers and you’ll see where we’re coming from.

It’s a good idea to understand the expectations of your industry. Which particular qualifications you’ll need and how you’ll go about getting some commercial experience. You should also spend a little time considering how far you’d like to get as often it can control your selection of certifications.

Seek out help from an experienced industry advisor who understands the sector you wish to join, and who can give you ‘A typical day in the life of’ synopsis of what duties you’ll be performing day-to-day. It’s good sense to understand whether or not this is right for you long before your course begins. There’s really no point in starting to train and then realise you’ve made a huge mistake.

It’s likely that you’re quite practically minded – a ‘hands-on’ individual. If you’re anything like us, the painful task of reading endless manuals is something you’ll make yourself do if you have to, but it’s not ideal. You should use video and multimedia based materials if learning from books is not your thing.

Where possible, if we can utilise all of our senses into our learning, then the results are usually dramatically better.

Top of the range study programs now offer self-contained CD or DVD materials. Instructor-led tutorials will mean you’ll find things easier to remember through their teaching and demonstrations. Then you test your knowledge by using practice-lab’s.

Each company you’re contemplating must be able to demonstrate a few samples of the materials provided for study. You should hope for instructor-led videos and a wide selection of interactive elements.

Often, companies will only use training that is purely available online; and while this is acceptable much of the time, consider what happens when you don’t have access to the internet or you get a slow connection speed. It is usually safer to have DVD or CD discs that don’t suffer from these broadband issues.

It’s quite a normal occurrence for students not to check on a painfully important area – the way their training provider segments the courseware sections, and into how many separate packages.

The majority of training companies will set up a 2 or 3 year study programme, and drop-ship the materials to you piecemeal as you get to the end of each exam. Sounds reasonable? Well consider these facts:

Many students find that the trainer’s ’standard’ path of training is not what they would prefer. They might find a different order of study is more expedient. And what happens if they don’t finish in the allotted time?

To be in the best situation you would have all the training materials packed off to you immediately; every single thing! This prevents any future issues from rising that will affect your capability of finishing.

Should you be aspiring to become Cisco accredited, but you’ve no practical experience with switches and routers, we’d recommend taking the Cisco CCNA qualification. This will provide you with the knowledge you need to understand routers. Vast numbers of routers make up the internet, and national or international corporations with several locations also utilise routers to connect their computer networks.

As routers are connected to networks, find a course that features the basics on networks – perhaps Network+ and A+, and then do a CCNA course. It’s vital that you’ve got a basic grasp of networks prior to starting your Cisco training or the chances are you’ll fall behind. In the commercial environment, employers will be looking for networking skills in addition to the CCNA.

Qualifying up to the CCNA level is where you should be aiming; don’t let some salesperson talk you into starting with the CCNP. With experience, you will have a feel for if it’s relevant for you to have this next level up. Should that be the case, your experience will serve as the background you need for the CCNP – because it’s far from a walk in the park – and shouldn’t be taken lightly.

There is no way of over emphasising this: Always get full 24×7 support from professional instructors. We can tell you that you’ll strongly regret it if you don’t heed this.

Don’t buy training courses that only support trainees through a message system after 6-9pm in the evening and during weekends. Colleges will give you every excuse in the book why you don’t need this. The bottom line is – you need support when you need support – not when it’s convenient for them.

As long as you look hard, you will find the top providers that give students direct-access support at all times – including evenings, nights and weekends.

Seek out an educator that is worth purchasing from. Only true live 24×7 round-the-clock support gives you the confidence to make it.

So many training providers are all about the certification, and completely miss the reasons for getting there – getting yourself a new job or career. Always begin with the final destination in mind – don’t make the vehicle more important than the destination.

It’s a sad fact, but a large percentage of students begin programs that seem amazing in the sales literature, but which gets us a career that doesn’t satisfy. Just ask several college graduates for a real eye-opener.

Stay focused on where you want to get to, and then build your training requirements around that – avoid getting them back-to-front. Stay on target – making sure you’re training for an end-result that will keep you happy for many years.

Before setting out on a training course, you’d be well advised to chat over individual market requirements with an experienced advisor, to ensure the training course covers all the bases.

Students who consider this area of study often have a very practical outlook on work, and won’t enjoy sitting at a desk in class, and endless reading of dry academic textbooks. If this is putting you off studying, try the newer style of interactive study, where learning is video-based.

Research into the way we learn shows that memory is aided when we involve as many senses as possible, and we get physically involved with the study process.

Find a course where you’re provided with an array of CD and DVD based materials – you’ll start with videos of instructor demonstrations, and be able to practice your skills in interactive lab’s.

You’ll definitely want a study material demo’ from any training college. You should ask for slide-shows, instructor-led videos and interactive labs where you get to practice.

Avoid training that is purely online. Physical CD or DVD ROM materials are preferable where available, as you need to be able to use them whenever it’s convenient for you – and not be totally reliant on your internet connection always being ‘up’ and available.

Finding job security in the current climate is incredibly rare. Companies can remove us from the workplace at the drop of a hat – as long as it fits their needs.

In actuality, security now only emerges in a rapidly growing marketplace, driven by work-skills shortages. It’s this alone that creates the appropriate setting for a secure marketplace – a far better situation.

The Information Technology (IT) skills shortfall in the country falls in at over 26 percent, as shown by the latest e-Skills investigation. Meaning that for each four job positions in existence throughout the computer industry, there are barely three qualified workers to do them.

This single concept alone highlights why the country desperately needs considerably more new trainees to become part of the industry.

While the market is developing at such a quick pace, is there any other sector worth looking at for retraining.

The Cisco training is fundamentally for those who wish to work with routers. Routers connect computer networks via dedicated lines or the internet. We’d recommend that your first course should be the CCNA. Steer clear of going immediately onto your CCNP because it is very complex – and you really need experience to take on this level.

Gaining this type of qualification will mean it’s likely you’ll end up working for national or international companies that have several different sites, but who still want secure internal data communication. On the other hand, you might end up joining internet service providers. This specialised skill set is highly paid.

Achieving CCNA is where you need to be aiming – you’re not ready for your CCNP straight away. Get a couple of years experience behind you first, then you’ll know if you need to train up to this level. Should that be the case, you’ll have a much better chance of succeeding – because you’ll have so much more experience.

Typically, a new trainee will not know to ask about something that can make a profound difference to their results – how their company divides up the training materials, and into what particular chunks.

Many companies enrol you into a program spread over 1-3 years, and send out each piece as you get to the end of each exam. Sounds reasonable? Well consider these facts:

What if you don’t finish every exam? And what if you find the order of the modules counter-intuitive? Through no fault of your own, you may go a little slower and not receive all the modules you’ve paid for.

Put simply, the best solution is to have a copy of their prescribed order of study, but to receive all the materials up-front. Everything is then in your possession in the event you don’t complete everything inside of their required time-scales.

Adding in the cost of examination fees as an inclusive element of the package price and offering an ‘Exam Guarantee’ is popular with many training course providers. But look at the facts:

They’ve allowed costings for it ultimately. One thing’s for sure – it isn’t free – it’s just been rolled into the price of the whole package.

If you want to qualify first ‘go’, then you should avoid exam guarantees and pay when entering exams, give it the priority it deserves and be ready for the task.

Does it really add up to pay a training company at the start of the course for exams? Go for the best offer when you take the exam, instead of paying any mark-up – and do it locally – rather than possibly hours away from your area.

Buying a course that includes payments for exams (and interest charges if you’re borrowing money) is a false economy. Resist being talked into filling the training company’s account with your hard-earned cash just to give them a good cash-flow! A lot bank on the fact that you will never make it to exams – so they get to keep the extra funds.

Pay heed to the fact that, with most ‘Exam Guarantees’ – they control when and how often you can do your re-takes. You’ll have to prove conclusively that you can pass before they’ll pay for another exam.

Spending hundreds or even thousands extra on ‘Exam Guarantees’ is foolish – when hard work, commitment and the right preparation via exam simulations is what will get you through.

Make sure that all your accreditations are current and commercially required – forget courses which end up with a useless in-house certificate or plaque.

Unless your qualification is issued by a big-hitter like Microsoft, Adobe, CompTIA or Cisco, then chances are it won’t be commercially viable – as no-one will have heard of it.

Being a part of the information technology industry is amongst the most stimulating and innovative industries you could be involved with. Being a member of a team working on breakthroughs in technology puts you at the fore-front of developments affecting everyone who lives in the 21st century.

There are people who believe that the revolution in technology we’ve had over recent years is slowing down. This couldn’t be more wrong. There are huge changes to come, and most especially the internet is going to dominate how we conduct our lives.

Incomes in IT are not a problem either – the income on average in the UK for an average IT employee is much better than in the rest of the economy. Odds are you’ll make a whole lot more than you would in most other jobs.

It would appear there’s not a hint of a downturn for IT jobs growth in the United Kingdom. The market sector continues to develop quickly, and as we have a significant shortage of skilled professionals, it’s most unlikely that it will even slow down for years to come.

What is the Zlob Trojan and what does it do? Well, the answer is that it’s a nasty little Trojan horse that can sneak into a personal computer (PC) by convincing the computer user that it is an anti-spyware program when in fact what it really is is a way for a virus called Zlob to get into the hard drive and operating system of a computer. As a result, computers often will then experience unending shutdowns and reboots.

Normally, the first thing a computer user notices when this Trojan horse is trying to enter the computer is a fake pop up that appears that says that the video file which is trying to be viewed needs a new codec — usually related to an ActiveX codec — in order to operate properly. Unfortunately, the Trojan hides within this download and then begins its malicious work.

After the Trojan gains entrance a series of pop ups begin to appear that resemble something that Microsoft might use to warn a user that his or her computer has been infected with a virus. Clicking anywhere on the pop up can trigger the download of that fake anti-spyware program — the most common variants of the fake spyware program are Virus Heat and MS Antivirus — which will actually implant the real Trojan horse.

The Zlob Trojan will sometimes cause another file – in the. Exe class of files — to be downloaded, and in that case it will tend to use the Windows Security icon in order to disguise its true nature and make a user think that it is an antivirus file from Microsoft that can be used to install a fix to the problem the Trojan itself is causing.

Once that particular file gets in and is installed a large number of problems might begin to occur with the computer, a couple of which revolve around an ordered shutdowns and reboots. In the case of those reboots, the Trojan is causing problems in the Windows Scheduled Tasks files related to an executable file called “zlberfker. Exe”. As a result of that particular file, the computer is usually plagued by reboots and shutdowns until a real fix can be implemented.

Additionally, as if that wasn’t enough, the computer may have been infected by a redirect program that the Trojan brings along with it and which will send users to websites that are controlled by certain Russian criminal groups and which tend to be pornographic in nature. This is sure to be an eye-opener to the little old church lady, one would say.

As to what to do if those pop-up ads appear, the quick answer is to never, ever click on them. Instead, do what’s called a hard shutdown cutting off power to the PC immediately and then waiting a couple of seconds and then rebooting it and ordering a disk scan for consistency in order to ensure that the download was interrupted.

Zlob Downloader is a serious problem and should be removed now.

by Jason Kendall

As you’re looking to study a course to qualify for an MCSE, you’ll fall into one of two camps. You’re either just starting to enter the world of IT, and you’ve found the industry has a huge demand for men and women who are commercially qualified. Or you possibly are someone with a certain amount of knowledge looking to formalise your skill set with the MCSE qualification.

During your research, you’ll come across companies that lower their out-goings by failing to provide the latest version from Microsoft. Avoid these companies as you’ll experience challenges at exam time. If you’re learning from the wrong version, it is going to be hugely difficult to get qualified.

Avoid businesses who are just trying to sell you something. You deserve time, expertise and advice to make sure you are registering on the correct course. Resist being forced into a standard product by an inadequate outfit.

Of all the important things to consider, one of the most essential is always full 24×7 support from expert mentors and instructors. So many companies we come across only provide office hours (or extended office hours) support.

some companies only provide email support (slow), and so-called telephone support is normally just routed to a call-centre which will take the information and email an instructor – who will attempt to call you within 24-48 hrs, when it suits them. This is all next to useless if you’re sitting there confused over an issue and only have a specific time you can study.

The very best training providers have many support offices active in different time-zones. By utilising an interactive interface to seamlessly link them all, no matter what time you login, help is at hand, with no hassle or contact issues.

Look for a training company that offers this level of study support. Because only live 24×7 round-the-clock support provides the necessary backup.

Many training companies will provide a useful Job Placement Assistance program, to help you get your first job. In reality it isn’t a complex operation to get a job – as long as you’re correctly trained and certified; the growing UK skills shortage sees to that.

Nevertheless, avoid waiting until you’ve qualified before bringing your CV up to date. As soon as your training commences, list what you’re working on and tell people about it!

You’ll often find that you will get your first position whilst still on the course (sometimes when you’ve only just got going). If your CV doesn’t say what you’re learning – or it’s not getting in front of interviewers, then you’re not even going to be known about!

If you’d like to keep travelling time and costs to a minimum, then you’ll probably find that a local IT focused recruitment consultancy could be more appropriate than a centralised service, due to the fact that they’re going to be familiar with what’s available near you.

To bottom line it, as long as you put the same commitment into getting a position as into studying, you won’t have any problems. Some men and women curiously spend hundreds of hours on their training course and then just stop once they’ve passed their exams and would appear to think that businesses will just discover them.

Those that are drawn to this type of work are usually quite practically-minded, and won’t enjoy sitting at a desk in class, and struggling through thick study-volumes. If this is putting you off studying, try the newer style of interactive study, where you can learn everything on-screen.

We see a huge improvement in memory retention when we use multiple senses – this has been an accepted fact in expert circles for many years.

Programs are now found in the form of CD and DVD ROM’s, where everything is taught on your PC. Video streaming means you will be able to see the instructor presenting exactly how it’s all done, and then practice yourself – with interactive lab sessions.

You must ensure that you see the type of training provided by the company you’re considering. Be sure that they contain full motion videos of instructors demonstrating the topic with lab’s to practice the skills in.

Opt for CD and DVD ROM based physical training media whenever you can. You’re then protected from the variability of broadband quality and service.

The best type of training package should have Microsoft (or key company) exam preparation systems.

Some students can find themselves confused by trying to prepare themselves with questions that aren’t recognised by official sources. Often, the question formats and phraseology is startlingly different and you should be prepared for this.

Mock exams are enormously valuable as a tool for logging knowledge into your brain – so when it comes to taking the real thing, you don’t get phased.

Nice One! Finding this article means you’re likely to be contemplating your career, and if training for a new career’s in your mind then you’ve already got further than almost everybody else. Can you believe that hardly any of us consider ourselves satisfied and happy at work – but most will take no corrective action. Why not liberate yourself and take action – you have the rest of your life to enjoy it.

On the subject of training, it’s important to initially know what you want and don’t want from the career you’re looking to get into. Ensure that the grass actually is greener before you spend time and effort taking a new turn. Prudence suggests looking at the destination you’re hoping for, to make the right judgements:

* Would you like to work with others? If you say yes, are you a team player or are you more comfortable dealing with strangers? Maybe you’d rather be left alone to get on with things?

* Which criteria’s are fundamental when considering the market sector you’ll be employed in?

* Should this be a one off time that you’ll need to re-qualify?

* Do you expect your new knowledge base to give you the opportunity to find the work you’re looking for, and be gainfully employed until you choose to stop?

We would strongly recommend that you don’t overlook the IT sector – everyone knows that it is one of the few growth sectors. IT isn’t all techie people lost in their computer screens all day – we know those jobs exist, but the majority of roles are carried out by people like you and me who earn considerably more than most.

Make sure you don’t get caught-up, as can often be the case, on the certification itself. You’re not training for the sake of training; you’re training to become commercially employable. Stay focused on what it is you want to achieve.

It’s not unheard of, for instance, to find immense satisfaction in a year of study and then spend 20 miserable years in something completely unrewarding, simply because you did it without the correct research when you should’ve – at the outset.

Never let your focus stray from where you want to get to, and then build your training requirements around that – not the other way round. Stay focused on the end-goal – making sure you’re training for a job that’ll reward you for many long and fruitful years.

You’d also need help from a professional who can explain the market you’ve chosen, and who can offer ‘A day in the life of’ synopsis of what you actually do on the job. These things are essential because you need to know whether or not you’ve chosen correctly.

Getting your first commercial position can feel more straightforward with the help of a Job Placement Assistance service. The honest truth is that it isn’t so complicated as you might think to secure your first job – as long as you’re correctly trained and certified; because there’s still a great need for IT skills in the UK today.

Help with your CV and interview techniques is sometimes offered (if not, see one of our sites for help). It’s essential that you polish up your CV today – not after you’ve qualified!

It’s possible that you won’t have even qualified when you’ll secure your initial junior support role; however this is not possible unless your CV is with employers.

The most reliable organisations to help you land that job are usually local IT focused employment agencies. As they’re keen to place you to receive their commission, they have the necessary incentive to try that bit harder.

A regular aggravation for various training providers is how hard students are prepared to work to become certified, but how un-prepared they are to work on getting the position they’ve qualified for. Don’t give up when the best is yet to come.

Frequently, your normal student doesn’t have a clue what way to go about starting in a computing career, let alone what market they should be considering getting trained in.

As without any commercial background in Information Technology, how should we possibly understand what someone in a particular job does?

Contemplation on several areas is essential when you need to get to the right solution that will work for you:

* Personality plays a significant part – what gets you ‘up and running’, and what are the areas that put a frown on your face.

* Are you aiming to accomplish a closely held goal – for instance, being your own boss in the near future?

* Is the money you make further up on your wish list than other requirements.

* Learning what the main work types and sectors are – including what sets them apart.

* Having a proper look at how much time and effort you can give.

The best way to avoid the industry jargon, and uncover the most viable option for your success, have an in-depth discussion with an experienced professional; a person who can impart the commercial reality as well as the certifications.

One thing you must always insist on is comprehensive 24×7 direct-access support through trained professional instructors and mentors. It’s an all too common story to find providers that only provide support to you inside of office hours (typically 9am-6pm) and sometimes a little earlier or later (but not weekends usually).

Try and find training with proper support available at all hours of the day and night (even if it’s early hours on Sunday morning!) Ensure you get access directly to professional tutors, and not a call-centre that will take messages so you’re waiting for tutors to call you back when it’s convenient for them.

World-class organisations utilise an internet-based round-the-clock facility combining multiple support operations across the globe. You’re offered a single, easy-to-use environment that seamlessly accesses whichever office is appropriate no matter what time of day it is: Support when you need it.

Don’t under any circumstances take anything less. Support round-the-clock is the only way to go when it comes to IT training. Maybe late-evening study is not your thing; usually though, we’re working when traditional support if offered.
